data-split-options='{\"type\":\"lines\"}'> Situ\u00e9e sur la majestueuse C\u00f4te Bleue, la Calanque de Niolon porte en elle une histoire riche et fascinante, fa\u00e7onn\u00e9e par des si\u00e8cles d'\u00e9volution et de changements. En 1820, en comptant le poste de douane, la population de Niolon \u00e9tait de 27 habitants, sans les militaires. Sa chapelle a \u00e9t\u00e9 construite en 1863, financ\u00e9e en partie par Mr Jean-Pierre Mathieu Martin fermier de la madrague, et par l\u2019\u00e9glise. C\u2019est le brave cur\u00e9 M. Gras, demeurant \u00e0 l\u2019Estaque, qui venait \u00e0 pieds en longeant le bord de mer, dire la messe, et sonner l\u2019unique cloche, offerte par le commandant d\u2019une fr\u00e9gate de la marine. Elles avaient \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9difi\u00e9es entre autres pour se prot\u00e9ger des Barbaresques qui repr\u00e9sentaient un risque permanent pour la population du village. Depuis des si\u00e8cles, ces pirates originaires d\u2019Afrique du Nord (du Maroc \u00e0 l\u2019\u00c9gypte) venaient piller les villages et capturer hommes et femmes pour les vendre sur les march\u00e9s aux esclaves. La plus ancienne des fortifications de Niolon date de 1694. Des canons permettaient de prot\u00e9ger les habitants en cas d\u2019attaque mais aussi un moyen de surveiller ceux qui se dirigeaient vers Marseille.\n<br><br>\n\nC\u2019est suite aux guerres, et au r\u00f4le commercial de Marseille, que Louis XIV d\u00e9cida de mettre un terme \u00e0 cette fragilit\u00e9. Apr\u00e8s la construction des forts du Vieux Port, il choisit des endroits strat\u00e9giques pour verrouiller l\u2019entr\u00e9e du port de Marseille. C\u2019est sous les ordres du Roi Soleil que 5 hommes et 5 femmes furent d\u00e9sign\u00e9s pour d\u00e9buter les travaux de la batterie basse de ce qui allait devenir le fort de Niolon. Celle-ci fut termin\u00e9e en 1702 puis reconstruite en 1811. Elle \u00e9tait destin\u00e9e \u00e0 barrer la route des mouillages de l\u2019Estaque. Ce fut la naissance des batteries d\u2019artilleries qui allaient prot\u00e9ger la rade de Marseille.\n<br><br>\n\nLe fort de Niolon fut construit en 1881. Perch\u00e9 \u00e0 193 m\u00e8tres de haut, son acc\u00e8s difficile rendait judicieux le choix de son emplacement. Il \u00e9tait pr\u00e9vu pour accueillir 36 hommes plus les officiers. La batterie haute du fort \u00e9tait \u00e9quip\u00e9e de 6 canons.\n<br><br>\nEn 2007, le site fut rachet\u00e9 \u00e0 la Marine par le conservatoire du littoral de la C\u00f4te Bleue. Il est pr\u00e9vu de r\u00e9am\u00e9nager le pont-levis pour acc\u00e9der au fort.
